Beavs offer in-state lineman

Earlier this month, Oregon State coach Gary Andersen spoke to the importance of recruiting in-state players. The Beavers have already extended offers to a handful of players from Oregon and on Saturday added another to the mix. Alex Forsyth, a 6-foot-5. 290 pound offensive tackle from West Linn, Oregon is the latest to add the Beavers to his growing offer list.

“I took a trip down with my Mom and I got to meet with the offensive line coach and the graduate assistant and the offensive quality control guy toured us around and showed us the weight room and facilities,” Forsyth said. “Then we met with the strength coaches and toured the academic side of things like the library and academic support and then had lunch and came back and had a meeting with Coach Andersen and that is when he offered me.”

Was Forsyth surprised by the Beaver offer, or was he looking for it on his trip?

“I’ve talked with him (Coach Andersen) on the phone before and we talked about how he liked my film and he wanted me to get down and check things out,” he said. “I didn’t see the offer coming, and it came pretty fast, but I’m not complaining about it.”

It was really cool to hear,” Forsyth said of the offer. “I know one or two offensive linemen in the class of 2015 and they (Oregon State) didn’t sign an offensive lineman in 2016, so it was really cool to get an offer from an in-state school and PAC 12.”

The Beavers struggled in 2015, winning two games. Forsyth knows about rebuilding and he liked Andersen’s vision for the program.

“I liked the vision, the planets are going to align and everything is going to go right,” he said. “They are obviously rebuilding and the first year is always the hardest. I understand where he is coming from as my team had the same thing, we had a coaching change and then we started doing really good.”

Being from Oregon, does Forsyth have a favorite team or a family favorite that he’s grown up with?

“No, not really,” he laughed. “I’ve stayed neutral. My sister went to Oregon and worked there for a little bit, but that is the only one that is a die-hard Duck fan in my family and she really doesn’t care, she’s happy for me. We have lots of Oregon State fans around here, it is pretty even.”

For now Forsyth is enjoying the process and has not set a timeline for when his college decision will be made. He also does not have plans to attend any camps this spring. He does hope to stay on the West Coast for college however. He added a Washington State offer shortly after announcing his offer from the Beavers.

Forsyth promised to keep BeaverBlitz updated on his recruitment.
