2018 RB commits to Oregon State

We are still a week away from National Signing Day for the 2016 class and Oregon State is looking ahead with a commitment from a 2018 Florida speedster, Camron Davis from Miami Gardens (Florida) Carol City.

The 5-foot-11, 191 pound running back may be finishing up his sophomore year of high school, but he knows that Oregon State is the place for him in large part because of the bond he's forged with his future position coach Telly Lockette.

Lockette's ties run deep in South Florida, and a stint at coaching at powerhouse Miami Central has also helped build relationships with players and prep coaches in the area whom are friends.

Rivals.com's Florida Recruiting Analyst, Rob Cassidy was able to speak to Davis shortly after he made his commitment.

“Because Coach Telly [Lockette] always comes around the school to check out on me. I felt close with him. He showed a lot of love,” Davis said.

“I haven’t been there, but I know a lot about it," he continued. "My cousin (Deltron Sands) went out there, but he’s red shirted. He told me about the coaches and what they do. He told me the running backs coach, coach Telly, takes people far in academics and football.”

While Davis has yet to see Oregon State, he is hoping to make a trip this spring to visit his cousin and get a better feeling for the overall program and campus.

“With the visit, maybe in the spring, I should go visit. I want to get up there and get the feeling,” he said.

Davis has a special blend of speed and toughness, especially given his age and the competition in South Florida, which makes his film that much more exciting.
